A Wing and a Prayer

My husband and I moved here to Maryland about a month ago.  As we were frantically packing for the move (he is in the military and got short notice orders... VERY short notice), I thought that I grabbed all of the yarn that I needed for the projects that I had going.  Turns out that I forgot at least one element from each one- a skein of yarn, a crochet hook, knitting needles of a particular size.

So I am just finishing (finally!) my first ever color work project.  A pair of argyle socks for my husband.  We graduated from Ohio State-and he is a big fan of the football team, so I wanted to incorporate the scarlet and grey.  My favorite color is green, so I used that as the color using the least yarn in the pattern.

In the second sock, I tried to carry the black yarn behind the red diamond rather than doing it intarsia style like I should have.  There is a lot of puckering.  Boo.

But back to my forgetfulness.

I forgot my other black skein and as you can see- I am thisclose to being done with this sock, but I'm not sure if I will have enough yarn.  If I don't have enough, I will be only a few yards shy, which is annoying but kind of funny.

In other news, I ordered some really nice sock yarn for a Christmas gift for my youngest sister.  Last year for Christmas I knit a really cool 'illusion knit' dragonfly scarf in gray and purple for her.  I asked her what she wanted this year and she wants some dragonfly gloves or mittens to match.  No problem, right?
Wrong.  I actually could find only one pattern for dragonfly mittens-and they were not that cool.  I went to the same website where I got the scarf pattern (illusionknits.com) and they DO have a mitten pattern, but it has a different figure on it.  I am going to try to merge the two together, but I really don't know how it will turn out!  More to come on that one when the yarn comes in!
